Management Team

Eric S. Yuan

Eric S. Yuan

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Eric S. Yuan founded Zoom in 2011 to help customers “work happy” and bring people together in an AI-first work platform for human connection. Zoom’s communications platform continues to transform the way global organizations connect, communicate, and collaborate. As the company’s founder and chief executive officer, Eric led Zoom to one of the highest-performing tech IPOs of 2019.

 

In 2019, he was recognized in the Bloomberg 50 as a leader changing the game in global business. Time Magazine named Eric its 2020 Businessperson of the Year and one of the 100 Most Influential People of 2020. In 2024, Eric was named a UC Leader of the Year by UC Today.

 

Prior to founding Zoom, Eric was corporate vice president of engineering at Cisco, where he was responsible for Cisco's collaboration software development. Eric was also one of the founding engineers and vice president of engineering at Webex.

 

Eric is a named inventor on 29 issued and 28 pending patents in real-time collaboration.

Velchamy Sankarlingam

Velchamy Sankarlingam

President of Product and Engineering

Velchamy Sankarlingam is the president of Product and Engineering at Zoom, where he leads various functions, including Product, Engineering, DevOps, Digital Transformation Office, and Support.

 

Prior to joining Zoom in 2020, Velchamy was senior vice president of Cloud Services Development and Operations at VMware where he held responsibilities in both R&D and IT. He managed a business unit in R&D and was also responsible for all infrastructure in the company, including building and operating one of the largest private clouds. Velchamy was also responsible for helping VMware transform into a SaaS company and the development of all business applications at VMware. Before joining VMware, Velchamy was vice president of Engineering and Operations at Cisco where he was responsible for the engineering and operations of Webex. Prior to that, Velchamy held vice president positions at Webex (acquired by Cisco) and Presenter.com (acquired by Webex). He also worked at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture), IBM, Network Computing Devices, and Standard Microsystems.

 

Velchamy holds a B.E. in electronics and communications engineering from the College of Engineering Guindy, Chennai, an M.S. in computer science from Northern Illinois University, an M.S. in business and policy from Stony Brook University, and also completed Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business Executive Program.

Abhisht Arora

Abhisht Arora

Chief Strategy Officer

As the chief strategy officer at Zoom, Abhisht Arora is responsible for key growth initiatives including monetization, corporate development, and strategic planning.

 

Prior to joining Zoom in 2021, he was vice president of Product at Microsoft Teams. He spent over 20 years at Microsoft in senior business and product leadership roles, including those at Xbox, Bing, Windows, Office, and Surface. He has a successful track record of delivering product innovation for customers such as the creation of Xbox Game Pass and driving step function usage and revenue growth at Bing and Xbox Live. Abhisht has managed scale platform businesses with multi-sided ecosystems across diverse business models of advertising, subscriptions, transactions, licensing, and device sales.

 

Abhisht holds an M.B.A. from the Kenan Flagler Business School at UNC-Chapel Hill, a Master of Commerce degree from Mumbai University, and is a Chartered Accountant (India).

Aparna Bawa

Aparna Bawa

Chief Operating Officer

Aparna Bawa brings expertise in building operations and infrastructure for rapidly growing technology companies to Zoom. She serves as Zoom’s chief operating officer and oversees the People Experience, Government Relations, Security, Privacy, Compliance, and Trust and Safety teams. Prior to her current role, she was Zoom’s chief legal officer.

 

Before joining Zoom in 2018, she was senior vice president and general counsel for Magento Commerce, which was acquired by Adobe in 2018. Prior to Magento, Aparna was the vice president and general counsel for Nimble Storage (NYSE: NMBL); she was instrumental in Nimble’s initial public offering in 2013. Later in 2017, she led Nimble’s sale to Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Previously, Aparna led the Legal and Corporate development functions for Inphi Corp (NYSE: IPHI) and was an investment banker at Lehman Brothers and Deutsche Bank. Aparna began her career as a corporate and securities attorney for Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. She was also an investment banker at Lehman Brothers and Deutsche Bank, where she executed multiple IPO and M&A transactions for technology clients. Aparna is a board member of Palo Alto Networks.

 

She holds a B.S. in accounting from Marquette University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.

Michelle Chang

Chief Financial Officer

Michelle Chang brings over 25 years of extensive leadership and finance experience to Zoom, where she leads the following teams: Accounting, Investor Relations, Tax, Financial Systems, FP&A, and Audits. Before joining Zoom in 2024, she was corporate vice president and CFO of Microsoft’s Commercial Sales & Partner Organization.

 

Prior to that, she served in numerous leadership positions at Microsoft, including corporate vice president and CFO of Modern Workplace (including Office and Teams) and Cyber Security, among others. Michelle started her career as an audit and consulting senior at Arthur Andersen.

 

She has a B.A. in accounting from The University of Washington and is a board member of Kindering.

Graeme Geddes

Graeme Geddes

Chief Sales and Growth Officer

As chief sales and growth officer at Zoom, Graeme Geddes is responsible for leading Zoom’s
Sales, Solution Engineering, Professional Services, Customer Success, and Channel teams across the globe to make teamwork more meaningful for hybrid teams with modern, AI-first collaboration solutions. These teams work on the front lines to increase productivity, drive employee engagement, strengthen customer relationships, and enable seamless workflows for customers and enterprises of every size.

 

Graeme joined Zoom in 2019 as general manager of the Zoom Phone business, taking it from product launch to more than 5.5 million seats sold in less than four years. He also spearheaded the successful go-to-market strategies of many of Zoom’s recent platform innovations, including Zoom Contact Center, Zoom Rooms, and Zoom Revenue Accelerator.

 

Before joining Zoom, Graeme spent 15 years at Cisco in various leadership roles. He also spent nearly four years as a firefighter with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

 

He holds a B.S. in business administration from California Polytechnic State University - San Luis Obispo and a certificate in innovation leadership from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Xuedong Huang

Xuedong Huang

Chief Technology Officer

Xuedong (X.D.) Huang is the chief technology officer at Zoom, where he leads the AI strategy and services for the company. Xuedong is a renowned technology leader who has been instrumental in bringing speech recognition and AI to the mass market. He has led groundbreaking milestones in speech recognition, machine translation, natural language understanding, and computer vision.

 

Prior to joining Zoom in 2023, he worked at Microsoft, where he served as Azure AI CTO and technical fellow. He began Microsoft’s speech technology group in 1993 and led Microsoft’s AI teams to achieve several of the industry’s first human parity milestones in speech recognition, machine translation, natural language understanding, and computer vision. He is an inventor with over 170 U.S. patents and has authored over 100 papers and two books. He is an IEEE and ACM Fellow, an elected member of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and received the IEEE Bose Industrial Leader Award in 2023.

 

Xuedong received his Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh in 1989 (sponsored by the British ORS and Edinburgh University Scholarship), his M.S. from Tsinghua University in 1984, and his B.S. from Hunan University in 1982.

Gary J. Sorrentino

Gary J. Sorrentino

Global Chief Information Officer

Gary Sorrentino has served as Zoom’s global chief information officer since 2020. A former managing director for J.P. Morgan Asset & Wealth Management, Gary was the global head of Client Cyber Awareness and Education.

 

For more than 12 years, Gary was the chief technology officer for J.P. Morgan AWM’s global technology infrastructure initiatives, where he managed the company’s data privacy program and was responsible for infrastructure, application, and end-user technology production support. In 2014, he assumed a new role as the lead for their cybersecurity efforts and developed a firm-wide “Protect the Client” cyber program, designed to raise cybersecurity awareness among employees and clients.

 

With almost 40 years of experience in information technology, Gary has served in various other IT leadership positions in firms across the financial services industry. Prior to joining J.P. Morgan in 2005, Gary was head of Global Infrastructure and head of Technology Efficiencies at Citi Private Bank, where he was responsible for global infrastructure support and strategic technology initiatives. Other roles he has held include global technology chief financial officer at Credit Suisse and North America IT Controller at UBS.

 

Gary studied electrical engineering at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Michael Adams

Michael Adams

Chief Information Security Officer

Michael Adams brings nearly 30 years of security and leadership experience as Zoom’s chief information security officer. Michael joined Zoom in 2020 and served as chief counsel to the COO and CISO while building the company’s insider risk, global intelligence, operations assurance, and security legal programs.

 

A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy who began his career as an engineer, Michael was previously an advisor to two chairmen of the joint chiefs of staff, numerous prominent publicly traded and privately held companies, and the highest levels of the U.S. Government. He enjoyed success as an executive at Palantir and as a partner in a major international law firm.

 

Michael earned his B.S. from the United States Naval Academy, his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, and his L.L.M. in international and national security law from Harvard Law School.

Shane Crehan

Shane Crehan

Chief Accounting Officer

Shane Crehan is the chief accounting officer at Zoom and brings a wealth of experience in technology, fintech, and financial services.

 

Prior to joining Zoom in 2020, he was the chief accounting officer at Eventbrite. He previously spent nine years at Facebook in multiple roles, including as head of International Finance and Global Finance Operations.

 

He holds a B.A. in law and accounting from the University of Limerick and is a fellow chartered accountant of Chartered Accountants Ireland.

Mu Han

Mu Han

Chief Development Officer

As Zoom’s chief development officer, Mu Han is responsible for leading Zoom’s product development.

 

Prior to joining Zoom in 2022, Mu spent 25 years at Microsoft developing communication products. He held the position of corporate vice president, responsible for real-time communication technology and services that power Microsoft Teams and Skype. He was instrumental in developing calling and meeting scenarios in Teams and leading the scaling effort through the pandemic. Previously, he held various leadership positions in developing all versions of Microsoft’s Unified Communications products. He began his career as a developer in Windows and enabled video calling in Windows Messenger.

 

Mu holds a M.S. in computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a B.S. in computer science from Tsinghua University.

Smita Hashim

Smita Hashim

Chief Product Officer

As Zoom’s chief product officer, Smita Hashim is responsible for leading Zoom’s product management. Smita joined Zoom in 2023 and brought her experience as an industry veteran with 20+ years of product management experience across Google and Microsoft.

 

Her product experience spans leading the delivery of television over IP networks at Microsoft, leading and scaling Google Meet, and more recently managing real-time communications platforms and products at Microsoft Teams. Beyond video, Smita has led Google Voice (Phone), Google Calendar and Tasks, Google Adwords product suite for local advertisers, and Google Chromebooks device portfolio and ecosystems. In 2024, Smita was named a winner of the Women in UC Leadership award by UC Today.

 

Smita grew up in India, where she received her B.Tech in electrical engineering at IIT Kanpur. She received her master’s from Princeton University in EECS and a Ph.D. from UC Santa Barbara, where she focused on image and video compression. Smita is a recipient of the IIT Kanpur Distinguished Alumni Award and founder of the IIT Kanpur women alumni network WIN.

Brendan Ittelson

Brendan Ittelson

Chief Ecosystem Officer

Brendan Ittelson is the chief ecosystem officer at Zoom, leading the company’s developer ecosystem. Brendan joined Zoom in 2015 and led Zoom’s global customer support before becoming the chief technology officer in 2020. In June 2023, he transitioned to his current role, where he continues to drive Zoom's collaborative platform expansion.

 

Prior to Zoom, Brendan worked as both a contractor and a Department of Defense civilian employee in the federal sector, creating, implementing, and supporting various global identity management systems. After leaving the DoD, Brendan transitioned to the financial sector and joined a FinTech startup, Dynamics Inc., where he served as the vice president of Special Operations. In that role, he combined his business and technology background on special projects, including helping to revolutionize payments without disrupting the way payment systems work.

 

Brendan was named a Top 50 Technology Professional by OnCon Icon Awards in 2023. Brendan holds a B.S. in business administration from the University of Oregon and a certificate in identity management from the Naval Postgraduate School.

Cheree McAlpine

Cheree McAlpine

Chief Legal Officer

Cheree McAlpine joined Zoom in 2024 and brings more than 25 years of legal experience representing global tech companies to Zoom as its chief legal officer.

 

Cheree has held several executive legal positions, most recently as the senior vice president and general counsel for Intercom, an AI and customer solution company. Prior to that, she was the chief legal officer and corporate secretary for Lumileds Inc. Prior to her role at Lumileds, she served as general counsel for Avnet Americas and Wyse Technology, where she managed the company’s successful sale to Dell.

 

Cheree was named one of the most influential lawyers in corporate America in 2024 by Savoy Magazine. She was named one of the Top 100 Diverse Leaders in Technology in 2022 by the National Diversity Counsel. Cheree received her B.A. from the University of Alabama and her law degree from Suffolk University Law School.

Matthew Saxon

Matthew Saxon

Chief People Officer

Matthew Saxon is the chief people officer at Zoom, where he leads People Experience. He ensures that Zoom’s core value of Care is reflected in the company’s approach to talent; workplace; benefits; compensation; diversity, equity, inclusion; recruitment; culture; and employee experiences.

 

Matthew joined Zoom in 2022 and he brings with him over two decades of experience in the HR field, serving most recently as vice president of People Operations at Meta, where he helped develop the strategic people roadmap and led the delivery of programs and services supporting significant increases in headcount and company growth. He was also senior vice president of Compensation, HR Operations, and Shared Services for Humana Inc., and held several leadership positions at Motorola, Inc., including vice president of Total Rewards and vice president of Human Resources for Asia Pacific and the Middle East.

 

Matthew received his B.Soc.Sc in psychology and sociology from Queensland University of Technology and was in the Advanced Human Resources Executive Program at the University of Michigan, Stephen M. Ross School of Business.

Awinash Sinha

Awinash Sinha

Chief Digital & Information Officer

As chief digital and information officer (CDIO) at Zoom, Awinash Sinha leads the Digital Transformation Office and IT organizations. In this role, Awinash oversees a wide range of functions, including Go-To-Market (GTM) Operations and Information Technology, which span Business Applications, Data & Analytics, Infrastructure, and Employee Services.

 

With over 25 years of experience, Awinash brings deep expertise in leveraging digital technology and AI to drive business outcomes and scale fast-growing companies. Prior to joining Zoom, he served as vice president of IT at VMware, where he led pivotal initiatives focused on the company's growth, enhancing customer and partner experiences, and transitioning VMware to subscription-based business models.

 

Awinash has also held leadership roles at leading technology companies such as NetApp, Juniper Networks, Cisco Systems, and PwC.

 

He earned his B.S. in engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in India, an M.B.A. from San Jose State University, and completed the Executive Program at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business.

Mr. Yuan is the founder of Zoom and has served as the chairman of the board of directors, president, and chief executive officer since June 2011. From May 2007 to June 2011, Mr. Yuan served as corporate vice president of Engineering at Cisco Systems, Inc., a multinational technology company. Mr. Yuan served in various roles, most recently as vice president of Engineering, at WebEx Communications, Inc., an internet company, from August 1997 until its acquisition by Cisco Systems, Inc. in May 2007.

Jonathan Chadwick

Former Chief Financial Officer at VMWare

Mr. Chadwick has served as a member of Zoom’s board of directors since September 2017. Since April 2016, Mr. Chadwick has been a private investor. From November 2012 to April 2016, Mr. Chadwick served as chief financial officer, chief operating officer, and executive vice president of VMware, Inc., a virtualization and cloud infrastructure solutions company. From March 2011 until October 2011, he served as the chief financial officer of Skype Communication S.a.r.l., a voice-over IP (VoIP) service company, and as the corporate vice president of Microsoft Corporation, a technology company, after its acquisition of Skype Communication S.a.r.l. from October 2011 until November 2012. From June 2010 until February 2011, Mr. Chadwick served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of McAfee, Inc., a security software company, until its acquisition by Intel Corporation. From September 1997 until June 2010, Mr. Chadwick served in various executive roles at Cisco Systems, Inc. He also worked for Coopers & Lybrand, an accounting firm (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) in various roles in the United States and United Kingdom. He currently serves on the boards of directors of Elastic N.V., a search and data analysis company; ServiceNow, Inc., a cloud computing company; and various private companies. He previously served on the board of directors of Cognizant Technology Solutions Corporation, an IT business services provider; and F5 Networks, Inc., an application networking delivery company. Mr. Chadwick is a chartered accountant in England and holds a B.S. degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Bath.

Mike Fenger

Vice President of Worldwide Sales, Apple

Mr. Fenger oversees global product sales for Apple, and his team plays an important part in helping customers discover products they love. Since joining Apple in 2008, he has also had a key role in strengthening telecommunications and consumer electronic reseller partnerships, and deepening connections with customers in enterprise, education, and government. He began his Apple career as vice president of Global iPhone Sales, where he led the expansion of iPhone distribution to customers around the globe. Mr. Fenger has over 20 years of experience building and leading sales teams for global companies. Prior to joining Apple, he held senior positions at General Electric and Motorola, where he helped develop and execute strategy for sales, operations, marketing, and supply chain management in the Americas, Europe, and Greater China. Mr. Fenger is a graduate of Miami University, where he earned a B.A. degree in Economics.

Peter Gassner

Chief Executive Officer of Veeva Systems

Mr. Gassner has served as a member of Zoom’s board of directors since October 2015. Since January 2007, he has served as chief executive officer and member of the board of directors of Veeva Systems Inc., a cloud computing company. From July 2003 to June 2005, Mr. Gassner served as senior vice president of Technology at Salesforce. From January 1995 to June 2003, he served as Chief architect and general manager of PeopleTools at PeopleSoft, Inc., a company providing human resources management systems acquired by Oracle. Mr. Gassner previously served on the board of directors of Guidewire Software, Inc., a software publisher. Mr. Gassner holds a B.S. in computer science from Oregon State University.

Cindy Hoots

Chief Information Officer of AstraZeneca

Ms. Hoots has served as the chief digital officer and chief information officer at AstraZeneca PLC, a pharmaceutical company, since January 2020. From January 2018 to December 2019, she served as global vice president of Technology of Unilever PLC, a multinational consumer goods company. Prior to joining Unilever, Ms. Hoots served as vice president of Next-generation Products, Commercial, and Digital Transformation at British American Tobacco plc from 2016 to 2018. She also spent 16 years at Mars, Incorporated. Ms. Hoots received a B.S. in computer information systems from DeVry Institute of Technology.

Lieut. Gen. H.R. McMaster

Fellow at Stanford University / Former National Security Adviser of the United States

Lieut. Gen. H.R. McMaster, U.S. Army, retired, has served as a member of the Zoom board of directors since May 2020. Since September 2018, he has served at Stanford University as the Fouad and as the Michelle Ajami senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, as the Susan and Bernard Liautaud fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute, and as a lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He served as a commissioned officer in the United States Army for thirty-four years until his retirement in June 2018. From February 2017 to April 2018, General McMaster was the 26th assistant to the president for national security affairs. General McMaster holds a B.S. from the United States Military Academy at West Point and an M.A. and Ph.D. in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Bill McDermott

Chief Executive Officer of ServiceNow

Mr. McDermott has served as the chief executive officer and a member of the board of directors of ServiceNow, Inc., a public digital workflow company, since November 2019. From 2010 through 2014, McDermott served as co-chief executive officer, and from 2014 until October 2019, as sole chief executive officer of SAP SE (“SAP”), a multinational software company providing enterprise software. Mr. McDermott joined SAP in 2002 as chief executive officer of SAP America, Inc., and served on the SAP executive board from 2008 until October 2019. Prior to joining SAP, he served as executive vice president of Worldwide Sales and Operations at Siebel Systems, Inc. and served as president of Gartner, Inc. Prior to that, Mr. McDermott held several senior executive roles at Xerox Corporation. Mr. McDermott currently serves on the board of directors of Fisker Inc., an automotive technology company. Mr. McDermott received a B.A. in business management from Dowling College, received his M.B.A. from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, and completed the Executive Development Program at the Wharton School of Business. 

Janet Napolitano

Professor of Public Policy at UC Berkeley / Former Secretary of Homeland Security / Former Governor of Arizona

Ms. Napolitano is a professor of public policy at the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley. She served as the twentieth president of UC Berkeley, the nation’s largest public research university with ten campuses, five medical centers, three affiliated national laboratories, and a statewide agriculture and natural resources program. Prior to joining the University of California, Professor Napolitano served as secretary of Homeland Security from 2009 to 2013. She is a former two-term Governor of Arizona, a former Attorney General of Arizona, and a former U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona. In 2019, she published a book titled, “How Safe Are We? Homeland Security Since 9/11.” Professor Napolitano earned her B.S. degree, summa cum laude, in political science from Santa Clara University, and her J.D. from the University of Virginia. 

Dan Scheinman

Former Senior Vice President at Cisco Systems

Mr. Scheinman has served as a member of Zoom’s board of directors since January 2013. Since April 2011, Mr. Scheinman has served as an angel investor. From January 1997 to April 2011, he served in various roles at Cisco Systems, Inc., most recently as senior vice president of Cisco’s Media Solutions Group. He currently serves on the boards of directors of Arista Networks, Inc., a cloud networking company, and SentinelOne, an endpoint protection company. Mr. Scheinman holds a B.A. degree in politics from Brandeis University and a J.D. from the Duke University School of Law.

Santi Subotovsky

Partner at Emergence Capital

Mr. Subotovsky has served as a member of Zoom’s board of directors since December 2014. He is also a general partner at Emergence Capital, a venture capital firm, and has been with the firm since 2010. In 1999, Mr. Subotovsky founded AXG Tecnonexo, an e-learning vendor in Latin America. Mr. Subotovsky is also a director of several private companies. Mr. Subotovsky is an Endeavor Entrepreneur and Kauffman Fellow. He holds a B.S. in economics from Universidad de San Andrés in Argentina and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
